"Strategies to Engage and Build Motivation to Achieve Housing Stability"

This session will be from 9- Noon on both August 13th and 14th

The session will include practical strategies to engage and motivate people on the streets, shelters and permanent supportive housing from the first meeting through tenancy, particularly those individuals who are reluctant to receive services. The application of techniques to discuss what is important to each person, negotiate services, define roles, plan cooperatively and engage in a helping relationship with staff will be discussed. Evidence based practices and case studies from the group will be featured.


"Housing First and Harm Reduction Strategies with Active Substance Users"

this session will be from 1:30 - 4:30 on both August 13th and 14th

This session will focus on the core elements of the practice of Housing First and addressing the issues that accompany active substance use. How to apply and structure the service using naturally occurring limits of tenancy, each person's life goals and community relationships will be reviewed. Issues related to serving an actively using population including health and safety, barriers to access, lease violations, building skills and negotiating to comply with a lease using harm reduction techniques will be discussed in depth. Case examples from the group will be featured.
